About Us

The Kansas City BioHub (KC BioHub) is a consortium-driven economic development initiative advancing the Kansas City region’s biomanufacturing cluster and biologics innovation ecosystem. Our goal is to become a global leader in the industry in the next ten years.

The KC BioHub, is a program of BioNexus KC, uniting more than 125+ organizations based in the Kansas City (KC) region. Together, we are working collaboratively to build a globally leading innovation ecosystem that develops and produces biologic medicines that extend, save, and improve lives.

Our consortium includes 40+ private sector members, ranging from industry leaders to CROs and CDMOs, and innovators. The KC region also includes four R-1 research universities, government agencies representing two states, 20 economic and community development organizations, 35 workforce development entities, and more.

KC BioHub: An EDA-Designated Tech Hub

In 2023, the KC BioHub was declared a Tech Hub by the Economic Development Administration (EDA). The Tech Hubs program, created by the CHIPS and Science Act, designated Kansas City as one of 31 communities across the country that have the potential to become global industry leaders in emerging technology areas within ten years.

Fueling American Innovation and Protecting Our Country

The KC BioHub works to develop and manufacture biologic medicines that protect humans, animals, and our global food supply. This requires the development of innovative technologies in cutting-edge fields like synthetic biology and rapidly scaling businesses with the potential to bring new therapies to market. It also requires continued growth, improved resilience, and onshoring in the biomanufacturing industry.

Biologics Are the Future and Save Lives Today

Biologics are medicines that are developed using living tissues and organisms. These medicines represent innovations that combat emerging infectious diseases, treat cancer, and save or improve our quality of life. Biologics are more common than you might think. You likely know and love someone who relies on a biologic, whether they use insulin to treat their diabetes, Humira to manage arthritis symptoms, or a GLP-1 medication to treat type 2 diabetes and obesity. In the future, biologics will enable the personalized medicine revolution.
